Blog report on Ecoshow Frome Walk 7 April 2012

This walk of 5miles in 3hrs explored up the Frome (above the culverted urban section) from Eastville to Frenchay. The Frome formed the north side of Bristol’s medieval ditch defences and the main harbour quays from 1250 onwards. It is a river with highly changeable water flows and was the source of many floods in Bristol right up to the 1960s. Its power in this steep stretch was harnessed by 6 weirs and mills. The valley landscape would have been quite industrial in the 1800s but is now peaceful countryside with cliffs, wooded valleys, side-streams and much wildlife including owls.

A Recent article about Ecoshows

Letters Editor Evening Post

9 May 2012

I suggest that the Place Making Director at Bristol City Council, Mike Bennett, and Councillor Jon Rogers, Executive Cabinet member for Health include walking in Bristol’s Wild City Project and in Bristol’s bid for European Green capital. (Post 9 May 2012).

Bristol has wonderful walking routes and many dedicated walking groups but the Bristol Ecoshow streamside walks are special – they include music and art and are free.

A streaming, a pulsating of life

First a trickle, then a torrent, now a flood

Ebb and flow, from river to marsh, filled in, dug out

Diverted, blocked,

Banks breached and flooded again

ECOSHOW 2012 'BRISTOL EARTH PILGRIMAGE'

What we're doing
This year we plan eight arts-enhanced stream-side journeys between April 7 and July 28. Walkers will get a better idea of the force of nature shaping topography, linking areas together and how history and more superficial human divides realte to natural forms. All walks are free and open to anyone, though some may have restrictions on numbers. Check the web site for updates

Will there be an ecoshow this year?
